We11done Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear Collection

It’s time for a reintroduction at We11done. For fall, the Seoul-based label decided to embrace flux while in search of a new identity. “It’s been a very chaotic time for us,” Youngjin Kim, brand manager and art director, said during a Zoom preview with the We11done team. “We’ve had changes in our team and our system, but we’ve decided to embrace the chaos and create this new collection regardless. Whether you knew about us before or not, we would appreciate it if this collection is the first impression of our brand for you.”

Titled Chaotic Neutral, the collection looked to “expand the realm of sartorial potential.” The first part of the title manifested itself as a mishmash of seemingly contradicting elements. There were feathered collars—made in reference to 17th-century Flemish paintings—placed against techy jackets; wool suits styled with mirrored vinyl thigh-high boots; and strapless evening-ish tube dresses paired with rain boots.

These dichotomies were most successful in looks that balanced contrasting elements without relying on gimmick, such as the tailored suits paired with Jeff Koons-esque pastel-colored thigh-high boots. The iridescent elements, which the We11done team said reference artist Anish Kapoor, helped bring a necessary edge and coolness to an otherwise muted and minimal collection. The roundness of the tailored jackets and wool capes made for interesting silhouettes, and brought a freshness to a saturated tailoring landscape. The most captivating shape was also the simplest: a sweetheart dress cut boxy and slightly oversized. It was most successful in the wool, where it leaned into the intention of exploring sartorial potential.

Chaotic as these looks were intended to be, they can all be broken down to wardrobe staples: a tailored jacket, a sequin going-out-dress, a cable knit sweater. Maybe that’s all We11done needs to move forward, to continue exploring how to make classic wardrobe staples feel new for their customers.

“This is a beginning for us,” the We11done team said towards the end of our meeting. The last two years have brought new beginnings to the minds of many. Finding the self through difficult times is a story many will relate to, and as We11done finds its new identity, surely some of its customers will do the same while wearing their clothes.
