Olivia Rodrigo on Her New Glossier Partnership and Why Her Approach to Beauty Is Ever-Evolving

“Olivia is a Glossier girl because she is unapologetically true to herself,” says creative director Marie Suter of what makes Rodrigo an ideal collaborator. Rodrigo, who has previously partnered with Glossier on Vogue Beauty Secrets and red carpet looks for the AMAs and Grammys, will lend her creative vision to new initiatives for the brand that will run the gamut from social content to major campaigns. The shared goal between Glossier and Rodrigo? “Challenge the notion of what a ‘typical’ celebrity beauty partnership looks like in a really fun and personal way,” explains Suter. That begins with their first Rodrigo-fronted campaign, which riffs on Rodrigo’s ’90s-leaning aesthetic and Glossier’s “You Look Good” motto as the singer playfully poses for close-up portraits and hazy camcorder captures, sporting her trademark fluffy brows, feline-flicked eyes, and a warm, sun-kissed glow.

While Rodrigo loves to experiment for major moments onstage or one of her high-octane music videos, day-to-day she keeps her beauty more pared back. “Less is more with skin care and makeup a lot of the time and I’ve found when I keep things simple I feel the best too,” she says of her everyday beauty philosophy. “I love a natural and glowy look—when your skin just shines through, which is like, Glossier’s whole thing, and I love that.” Hence why a lit-from-within complexion has been as much a staple of her look as novelty T-shirts, mini-skirts, and sky-high platform boots.

The way Rodrigo sees it, beauty is a vital form of self-care—especially amid the long days and nights of touring (she just kicked off the tour for her record-breaking debut album, Sour). “Taking the time to care for your skin and doing your makeup, however you want, is kind of an act of self-love and a way to recharge,” she insists. “I think it’s about feeling good in your own skin and having fun with the process. That’s really shaped how I think about beauty and why working with Glossier has felt really natural.” With her ability to embody both the beauty of no-makeup makeup and something more extreme when the moment calls for it, Rodrigo is the face of a generation enjoying a new sense of aesthetic freedom.
